FAQs

Q: I really don't need to scrape!?
A: Nope! With a traditional wax iron, extra wax is required to protect the base from the iron. With an infrared waxer, you're using indirect heat and thus only need to apply enough wax that can be absorbed into the base. Thus, a wax brush is very effective at removing any extra wax.  

Q: What brushes should I get?
A: We love the Roto Brushes - they are faster and more effective. Hand brushes work great too but just take a bit more time. 

Q: What is the wattage? 
A: 800w (2 400w bulbs)  

Q: What is the voltage requirement? 

A: We have two versions. In the US, the IR Waxer uses a standard 110v plug. For Europe and international use, the IR Waxer uses a 220v plug.

Q: How close to the base do I need to hold the device?  
A: Proximity to the base is the primary mechanism for controlling heat. The closer/longer you hold it in one spot, the hotter that spot will get. We recommend holding the waxer around 2-4 inches from the base of the ski/snowboard

Q: Can I still burn my bases?
A: Yes. Just like any heat source, if you leave it in one place for too long, you can burn the base. However, it is difficult to do and almost requires a deliberate action.

Q: Does it work with all waxes?
A: Absolutely! The IR Waxer will work with any hot wax.  

Q: What are the dimensions of the unit?  
A: ~8.5 in x 5 in x 7.5 in. 

Q: Does the IR Waxer work with all types of equipment? XC skis, snowboards, etc 
A: Yes, you can use the IR Waxer with alpine skis, XC skis, and snowboards.

Quality construction in all the pieces. Way less mess and shavings than ironing. Warm temperatures wax kept me sliding in slush except for the most grippy snow. I didn’t get the guide but it is on my wish list. Great product. Looking forward to using it on waxed canvas pieces.

Infrared waxer

I find the infrared waxer pretty good. I have a bit of a learning curve to use how to learn how to use it properly. But other than that, I find it very convenient.

Fantastic bundle. So grateful for this design and innovation.

So easy, so effective, and better for the environment. I still struggle with my skate skiing but you can only expect so much from excellent wax.

Great but…

All amazing products but the wax stands aren’t tall enough for my board bindings
so is a pain to wax when the board is rocking all over.

Also a little more info on how to prep the board before wax (scrape off old wax I’d assume?) and a more detailed stat to finish video on the waxing process

Just what I needed

Everything looks like quality, and great shipping/packaging. Everything seems to work well. Just did a few waxes (way faster/easier/cheaper/less wasteful than traditional waxes) and had a nice ski (skate skis). This kit is great for daily skiing in AK. Easy/cheap/fast enough to wax at the start of each week with appropriate temp, as is my plan.

One con that's easily avoided: Be careful with the IR waxer. The cord positioning gives it a weird balance, and it fell off a stool the first time I waxed. Nothing broke and I'm more careful now, but that's the only con. I also wish there were a few more detailed youtube videos explaining how not to burn ski with this waxer (is it less powerful than conventional IR heaters?) and how to ensure wax is fully impregnated into ski. The current YT video is a little fast and not detail oriented enough.

Thanks for the feedback Ryan! We took note of this and our 2024 IR Waxer is now much more stable.

Yes, it is less powerful than a conventional IR heater. Typically those heaters come with 1 1000w bulb. We use 2 450w bulbs which disperses the heat more efficiently and signficantly reduces the risk of burning your ski. It is still possible to burn your base, but you would need to go out of your way to do it. Keeping the IR in motion, like you would a traditional iron, will provide enough heat to melt the wax but not enough to burn a ski.

Game Changer

I got the IR Waxer and kit after seeing a demo at the 12 hours of Sunlight Race. I've been hot waxing skis for 2 decades and not having to scrape (and clean up) is such a bonus. It makes waxing super easy and the performance is great.

IR Waxer works great

IR waxer works great and the stands are great too. The only thing it is missing is a travel box like the blue square kit to store the IR waxer, waxes and brush set
